Rival Sailing is a recognised RYA training centre based at James Watt Dock Marina, Greenock (Firth of Clyde) and operated by RYA Principal and Chief Instructor Sam Paterson.
Sam is an RYA Yachtmaster Instructor for Sail with commercial endorsement and holds a PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups scheme) certificate. He is also co-owner of Rival 41C sail training yacht East End Endeavour. Having first sailed on EEE aged 15, Sam is now dedicated to providing rewarding sailing opportunities to beginners and enthusiasts alike. Read more in About us > Our history.

Rival Sailing provides accredited RYA Sail Cruising courses, as well as range of informal sailing activities to suit everyone, from day taster sails to chartered cruises, mile-building passages and sailing tuition. All courses and charters are skippered by Sam or another experienced RYA certified skipper, who’ll instruct and look after you on board East End Endeavour. In addition to operating Rival Sailing, Sam is also Development Director of East End Endeavour Ltd, a not-for-profit company set up to keep the inclusive ethos of the boat alive by delivering subsidised Sail Challenges to young people and groups from disadvantaged areas in Scotland.
